Shrewsbury Prison Christmas Market Success

 

Will it be remembered as one of the best Christmas Markets in Shrewsbury? We will let you decide! But what we can say is that our Christmas Market has yet again been a huge success!

On the 9th of December, The Mayor of Shrewsbury cut the ribbon for the grand opening of our Christmas Market which run over the weekend of the 9th & 10th December. The prison welcomed 14,000 visitors across the weekend who were looking for the perfect gifts to treat their family and friends to this Christmas.

 Our stall holders and food vendors were also in the Christmas spirit, they filled the grounds of our prison offering a variety of fine food, drinks, homemade crafts, and unique jewellery for visitors to shop! Children also had the opportunity to write a letter to Santa at Shrewsbury Prisons designated stall as well as having ‘cell-fie’ opportunities using our naughty or nice boards!

There really was something for everyone. Artists had crafted unique jewellery, pottery, home décor and bespoke gifts; shoppers were spoilt for choice! Irresistible gooey brownies, cookies, cakes accompanied by a luxury hot chocolate seemed to be of interest to most with many choosing to browse the market with a warm beverage and a sweet treat in their hands, how else would you want to spend your time?

Overall, Shrewsbury Prisons Christmas Market 2023 was a huge success. The team enjoyed welcoming new visitors behind bars as well as welcoming back existing ones! We would like to thank all of those who attended and for adding to our festive atmosphere, to the stall holders and food vendors for making it a day to remember and adding to the festive cheer, and of course to our team who as always have worked incredibly hard behind the scenes during the run up to this one-of-a-kind event.

Now, the countdown for the big day begins, Christmas is just around the corner!

However, you choose to spend Christmas this year, on behalf of all of us here at our prison, Merry Christmas and we look forward to welcoming you back for more festivities next year!
