ACTIVITIES ASSISTANT – 20 HOURS / £9.50 PER HOUR.

This exciting role of Activities Assistant is to support the Duty manager with Activities & Events. From Locking people up in our prison themed escape rooms, to running our adrenaline-packed icombat sessions, you’ll be heavily involved in all the various events and activities that Shrewsbury prison has to offer. This role requires delivering first class customer service, enthusiasm, and the ability to pick up new skills, like throwing axes!

Key responsibilities include:

• Having a full knowledge of all products, tours and activities available at Shrewsbury Prison

• Learning and supporting large events, such as Prison Break, by playing a character

• Learning and running all activities such as Escape rooms, Angel & Axe throwing, icombat, archery wars, and more!

• Supporting the events team with Night Behind Bars

• Ensuring all activities are carried out in a safe and secure manner

• Ensuring activities are conducted at a high standard

• Working as part of a team and maintaining communication with fellow colleagues and actors during events

The role is for 20 hours per week and requires weekend and evening working, as well as weekday daytime shifts. The rate of pay is £9.50 per hour.

Restaurant Manager – 32-40 hours per week / £10.50ph

Shrewsbury Prison are looking for an enthusiastic person to manage our Restaurant Team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Organising staff shifts and scheduling
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Leading by example
  • Planning menus
  • Working with food and drink suppliers
  • Ensuring all food safety procedures are strictly followed according to sanitary regulations
  • Following all company policy and procedures regarding dealing with cash, equipment, and property
  • Maintaining safe working conditions
  • Auditing inventory levels to ensure product availability, and ordering products as necessary
  • Recruiting and training staff
  • Working closely with management to meet revenue objectives
  • Implementing appropriate strategies to resolve adverse trends and improve sales

Our ideal candidate has great customer service skills and leadership skills. They should have the ability to motivate and manage staff, work well with others, and accept criticism and work well under pressure.

They should have business management skills, patience, and knowledge of food production methods.

Knowledge of computers and industry technology would also be an advantage.

Catering Assistant – 32 Hours per week / Minimum Wage

Shrewsbury Prison are looking for an enthusiastic person to become a member of our restaurant team.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced catering person, to join an established, friendly team in a unique setting.

Our Restaurant is open Monday-Sunday, 10am-5pm, plus one late evening a week. There are no split shifts and we are flexible on hours.

The Catering Assistant role will include:

  • Following opening and closing procedures to ensure maximum efficiency
  • Maintaining a high level of food safety and hygiene
  • Delivering excellent customer service
  • Preparing and plating food to a high standard
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen area
  • Completely regular stock intakes and reporting food wastage
  • Completing daily paperwork
  • Feedback ideas on how to further improve existing menus/ restaurant
  • Develop ideas for future menus/ restaurant
  • Catering for private functions and events including some evening events
  • Baking and dessert preparation when required
  • Support colleagues and other teams within the prison

We are looking for someone who is confident, flexible, hardworking, reliable and has great customer service skills.

Certificate in food hygiene is desirable but not essential.

Experience in working in a café style restaurant, customer service and technical cooking skills are a must.

The Activities Assistant role will also involve assisting the front of house team with checking our customers in to the prison and delivering first class customer service and enthusiasm in every activity.
