We recommend planning for a full day’s visit to make the most of your experience. Our historical character interactions take place every half hour, so if you miss one, or want to experience it again, you’ll have plenty of opportunities.
You’ll meet six historical characters, each sharing their story from different periods, starting in 1793 and ending in 1960.
Yes! We have a restaurant serving hot and cold drinks, food & snacks from Victorian era.
Car parking is available on site at ÂŁ5 but must be paid beforehand.
Absolutely! Our Living History Days are designed for both children and adults. The sights, sounds and stories from the past will bring the prison to life in an engaging and immersive way.
We highly recommend booking in advance, especially on busy Bank Holidays, to ensure availability. Walk-ins are possible with the visitor centre open.
Yes, well behaved dogs are permitted inside the prison walls.

Shrewsbury Train Station is situated directly opposite the prison and just a few minutes’ walk away, exit the station and head up the steps on the path to the left, then cross over the train tracks using the Dana bridge. Bus routes are also available to Shrewsbury Town centre which is just 10 minutes away. Please check the relevant timetables for the bank holiday.
